American Bicentennial History Project

In commemoration of the American Bicentennial the library is conducting a major project to expand its American history book and journal resources to fulfill the needs of students and faculty who are engaged in American historical study and research. The primary focus of this project is to assemble excellent collections of books and historical journals for each of the fifty states and the major cities and counties. Many of the earlier history books and journals are becoming available in reprint editions, and a large number of new histories are being published in commemoration of the American Bicentennial.

To purchase current and reprint editions of major history books and journals for all 50 states will require expenditure in 1975 of approximately $1,000 per state, totaling $50,000. Donors of special funds for this purpose will be honored by a commemorative bookplate placed in each volume, and a permanent memorial plaque for major donors can be installed at a prominent location in the library.

The Georgetown University Library American Bicentennial History Project will establish in the nation's capital an excellent and important collection of historical information about each of the fifty states.

Library Associates members are invited to participate in this project by contribution of funds or donation of appropriate historical books and documents.
