Carl A. S. Coan Collection in Housing and Urban Affairs

The professional papers of the late Carl A.S. Coan have been given to the library by his widow, Mrs. Flora Coan, to establish the Carl A.S. Coan Collection in Housing and Urban Affairs. Mr. Coan had a distinguished career as an economist and public official concerned with housing, mortgage finance and urban development. He was staff director of the Subcommittee on Housing and Urban Affairs of the United States Senate for many years. He also was an economist, housing analyst and statistician with the U.S. Housing and Home Finance Agency and the Bureau of the Census. The Coan Collection will be expanded with additional relevant papers of individuals and organizations concerned with housing and urban affairs, and plans are underway for the establishment of an endowment fund for the purchase of appropriate material to increase the Collection.
