Colonel John W. Thomason, Jr. Manuscripts, Books, Art

From Mr. and Mrs. John S. Mayfield the library has received a portion of their collection of books, manuscripts, and original art work by and about John W. Thomason, Jr. (1893-1944), author, artist, illustrator, and career officer in the U.S. Marines. The gift includes books written, illustrated, or owned and used by Thomason and more than forty original drawings and watercolors, among them the originals of some of his most noted work in book ullustration. The Thomason Collection will be of special interest to researchers on military history, American literature, and book illustration.
