In Memoriam

The University community was saddened last October to learn of the death of Dr. Kevin Madden, who had been a most popular teacher in the English Department until his retirement for health reasons a few years ago. He was a Library Associate and ardently supported the development of the library's Celtic literature collection. A very generous gift to purchase books in his memory has been made by Mr. and Mrs. Daniel L. Schlafly of St. Louis, MO, and his brother, Larry Madden of Minneapolis, MN, donated a number of valuable books from Kevin's book collection to the Library.

Dr. Anthony Kalina (PhD'35), who had been a loyal and generous Library Associate, died Dec. 10, 1984 at the age of 81. As reported in previous issues of the Newsletter, he had been donating over several years his extensive personal book collection, and during this past year he made the initial gift of his papers dealing with the history of his native Czechoslovakia. He had made arrangements, also, to establish a book endowment fund in memory of his father.
