A New Old Manuscript

We rejoice in adding to our collections an unrecorded manuscript of the first three books of the De imitatio Christi, attributed to Thomas a Kempis. Probably written in Flanders between 1445 and 1475, the manuscript survives in a nearly contemporary binding and is enhanced by an even earlier bifolium in Dutch, perhaps used as a bookmark.

The manuscript comes to us as a gift of the estate of Louise A. Emling, presented by her daughters, Mrs. Judith Molseed and Mrs. Sarah Byrne.
