Second Annual Meeting The Archivist of the United States, Dr. James B. Rhoads, was the guest speaker at the Associates second annual meeting on June 4, 1977, held in the Pierce Reading Room of the Lauinger Memorial Library. Dr. Rhoads discussed problems of acquiring and preserving papers of the Presidents of the United States from George Washington to Gerald Ford. His very informative discussion included the development of the Presidential libraries, the recent report and recommendations of the Public Documents Commission, and the provisions of the Presidential Recordings and Materials Preservation Act of 1974. The Associates Board of Trustees met during the afternoon of June 4 to receive a progress report and to consider proposals for Associates activities during 1977-78. The University Librarian reported that 662 members have been enrolled since initiation of the Associates in 1975. Membership contributions of funds amount to more than $25,000, and gifts of books and manuscripts amount to estimated value of more than $200,000. The Board of Trustees membership was increased to thirty by election of the following additional members:
