Thanks
to My Friends!
Dorothy Brown, Provost; David Walsh, Chairman of the Library Advisory Council; and Sue Martin at LAC's farewell reception in Sue's honor. Thanks to my Friends! After eleven years at Georgetown, filled with many memories of people, events, and challenges, I want to pause to thank all of you who made this past decade such a joyful one for me. In the recent months, you have celebrated me far more than I deserve, and certainly enough to make one blush and feel a great sense of humility, as well as of accomplishment. Probably most importantly, Father Leo J. O'Donovan, S.J. himself, in his last few weeks at Georgetown, bestowed upon me the President's medal. I knew that he would say a few words of thanks to me at the Presidential Counselors' reception during reunion weekend; I was not prepared for the medal, which I will always cherish. Thank you, Library Advisory Council, for creating the Susan K. Martin Fund for Innovative Information Technology - and for giving me a copy of Nicholson Baker's book, autographed to me! Thank you, Georgetown Board of Governors, for presenting me with a Presidential Citation. Many thanks to my friends in ALA's Fuzzy Match Interest Group, for a roast - if it's reasonable to thank anyone for being roasted - and to my colleagues in the Chesapeake Information and Research Library Alliance. A decade at Georgetown means that Georgetown becomes a part of one's family, and indeed while I will be in Massachusetts, I expect to be back frequently. So finally, thank you all, for providing me with the honor of leading this library and its supporters in a decade of great change. Susan K. Martin, Ph.D. |
