"Wine is Sunlight, Held Together By Water"

--Galileo Galilei

Wine bottles

The Library would like to thank Robert M. Wagner F '48 for his generous donation of 40 cases of Georgetown University Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon to the Library Associates program.

The wine was delivered to us through the good offices of Billy Thomassen, son of Mr. Wagner's Georgetown classmate George Thomassen F'48, in time to be enjoyed at the first of this year's Library Associates events.

Mr. Wagner says he "did this because of Paul Anthony [B'64]," who approached him on the subject at the John Carroll Awards Weekend in Paris in April, 2002, and because "reading is the key to knowledge, and knowledge is the key to success."

From his own reading list, Mr. Wagner highly recommends James Carroll's newest book, Constantine's Sword: The Church and The Jews: A History. Mr. Carroll, who attended Georgetown in the 1960s, is a columnist for the Boston Globe and won the National Book Award in 1996 for his book An American Requiem.
