The Map of Love

Soueif's The Map of Love

Ahdaf Soueif, The Map of Love, London: Bloomsbury, 1999. From the Booker Prize Collection in Lauinger Library's Special Collections.

This year’s First Year Student Workshop, in which all freshmen and first-year transfer students read a text by a major international author and participate in a conversation with the author at the beginning of the semester, featured the novel The Map of Love. Written by Egypt-born author Ahdaf Soueif, the novel was short-listed for the Booker Prize in 1999.

The novel weaves together the stories of two women living 100 years apart, set against the background of the political struggles of their times in Egypt and the Middle East.
