Ahdaf Soueif, The Map of Love,

Lauinger Library's Special Collections.
This year’s
First Year Student Workshop, in which all freshmen and first-year
transfer students read a text by a major international author
and participate in a conversation with the author at the beginning
of the semester, featured the novel The Map of Love. Written
by Egypt-born author Ahdaf Soueif, the novel was short-listed
for the Booker Prize in 1999.
The novel weaves together the stories of two women living 100
years apart, set against the background of the political struggles
of their times in Egypt and the Middle East.
