In conjunction with the Georgetown University Press,
the Library Associates presented Lessons of Disaster with
Tom Birkland in November. Dr. Birkland, associate professor
of public administration, public policy, and political
science at the University at Albany, State University
of New York, is the author of Lessons of Disaster:
Policy Change after Catastrophic Events, published
by Georgetown University Press in 2006.
In his talk Professor Birkland discussed the politics
that surround natural, technological, and intentional
disasters, including the many questions raised by Hurricane
Katrina and its aftermath.
A booksigning followed the event. More information
about the book can be found at the Georgetown University
Press website at http://press.georgetown.edu.
