Beginning in April, the Library’s Fairchild
Gallery will feature a display related to the Shakespeare
in Washington festival, which officially runs from January
through June, 2007. The citywide festival features events
and performances from over 40 area arts organizations, in
conjunction with the 75th anniversary of the Folger Shakespeare
Library. The exhibition at Lauinger Library, curated by art
collection staff, will include rare books, prints, posters,
photographs and antebellum playbills from the College Archives,
and an unusual photographic album from Georgetown’s
1975 production of King Lear. Our prized First Folio (1623),
acquired from the estate of University benefactor, Mrs.
John Vinton Dahlgren, will be represented via a 1902 facsimile
edition. Shakespeare at Georgetown will run from April
through
June. More about the city festival can be found online
at www.washington.org/shakespeare. |
