Date: August 21, 2007

From: Jennifer Boettcher (bO•cher), Business Reference Librarian

Welcome to Georgetown University. As a part of your education at The McDonough School of Business, you will have the opportunity to use the Joseph Mark Lauinger Library’s business services and collections. We offer a uniquely strong business collection, specialized instruction, multimedia production facilities, designated graduate-study space, foreign news sources, and other conveniences to make your educational experience a productive one.

One of the strengths of Lauinger Library is our personal contact with students at the reference desk, in workshops, and online. All of the library reference staff have been trained in business reference and are able to assist you. We also offer business information literacy workshops. For specialized help, you may schedule a short workshop tailored to your topic or request a workshop on how to optimize your use of a database. We only ask that you gather four people to set up the workshop on YOUR schedule www.library.georgetown.edu/bic/ea.htm. For general information concerning graduate student resources and services from the library go to www.library.georgetown.edu/bic/students.htm.

Another strength is the collection. Focusing on the specialties of the MBA program, we collect in international business, finance, marketing, management, accounting, and corporate ethics. We recognize each format has its benefits, and we build our collection with print, Internet, video, CD-ROM, and microforms. Titles such as S&P's Industry Surveys:, EIU's Country Commerce, ProQuest's ABI/Inform Complete, GSI's LIVEDGAR, and Factiva will help you in your research. By the way, you can find the full-text of the Harvard Business Review in a database called EBSCO Health Business Elite. Don’t pay for articles or reports, your tuition dollars may give you the access you need.

Your time is valuable, and if you find yourself spending more than 15 minutes to find information, it’s time for you to ask for help. Contact a librarian at the reference desk in person or at (202) 687-7452. Our weekday hours are 8:30 a.m.-9:00 p.m., and we are also available on the weekends. Click on the online help button for 24/7 immediate assistance or contact us with your question at reference@georgetown.edu for a 24-hour turnaround, seven days a week. I also have “office hours” in the MBA Multipurpose Room every Tuesday 2-3 and at Lauinger’s Reference Desk every Monday evening 6-9.

To connect to more information: sign up for BICPicks to keep up on new databases and learn strategies of business research; attend the Library Orientation Sessions for Business Students on August 15, 16, 17, and 22 (6:30-7:30) or October 2 and 3 (6:30-7:30 p.m.) in the Dubin Room, on the first floor of Lauinger; make the Business Intelligence Center webpage your favorite www.library.georgetown.edu/bic; and come visit us in the library.
