Proxy Borrowing

Borrowing by proxy provides borrowing privileges in the Georgetown University Library to individuals working for or with a Georgetown faculty member.  The faculty member may designate, via the proxy request form, a person who is authorized to borrow materials in his/her name.

Please fill out the proxy form and return it to the Circulation Desk in Lauinger Library or fax it to (202) 687-1215.

Policy: 

The sponsoring faculty member is responsible for all materials borrowed and fines accrued by the proxy.

Proxy privileges are issued for no more than one academic year.

Proxies may be a research assistant, family member or student.

To name a proxy, a faculty member must already be a registered borrower in the Georgetown University Library.

Proxy privileges do not extend to the Interlibrary Loan service.

Faculty & Instructor Borrowing Policies

Policy: 

Georgetown University faculty may borrow as many books as they need from the Lauinger, Blommer Science and Woodstock Theological libraries.

Loan Period

Tenure, tenure-track, and retired faculty

Books will be due on January 31, 2011.

Adjunct, visiting, part-time faculty, and graduate lecturers

Books will be due on either January 31 or May 31, depending on when the materials are checked out. All books borrowed after May 31 will be due in the upcoming January. All books borrowed after November will be due in the upcoming May.

Research faculty

Your book loan period is six weeks. Please see the policies on Visiting Researchers for more details of your privileges.

All books are subject to recall after four weeks if requested by another borrower, two weeks if needed for Course Reserves.

Renewing books

You must physically bring all materials to the Circulation / Reserve desk in order to renew. You may not renew over the phone, on-line, or without the materials.

Fines will accrue on all materials renewed three days or more beyond the listed due date.

Overdue Fines

Overdue notices are sent to your Georgetown e-mail address as a courtesy. Failure to receive notices of overdue items is not grounds for dismissing fines.

Fines are levied against all overdue items.

Circulating items: $0.25 / per day
Bound periodicals: $4.00 /first day, $2.00 each additional day, replacement charge after 4 days overdue
Interlibrary Loan items: $0.25 / per day
Media: $1.00 / first hour; $0.50 each additional hour
Multimedia CDs and Books: $0.25 / per day
Recalled items: $5.00 / per day
Reserve items: 2, 4 or 24 hour loan period $1.00 / first hour; $0.50 each additional hour
Reserve items: 3 day loan period $2.00 / first day; $1.00 each additional day

A block will be placed on your circulation record if you owe $100.00 or more in fines.

Lost or Damaged Materials

Book replacement options:

1) $57 replacement cost, $30 processing fee and any fine charges up to a maximum of $10,

or

2) A copy of the material may be brought to the Circulation Desk by the patron for replacement consideration by the Library. If accepted, there will be a $15 processing fee and any fines accrued up to a maximum of $10.
