Technology
by Classroom
Many Main Campus classrooms and seminar rooms contain built-in technology.
The term " built-in " means that the equipment is permanently
in the room. Below is a list of these rooms.
If a particular type of technology is not listed for a particular
room, it may be possible for CETS to deliver that technology to the
room, or for the user to borrow that technology from
ICC 121.

Even if technology is permanently installed, it may be secured when
not in use. Because of this, and because set-up and preparation of
technology by CETS staff is sometimes required, those wishing to
use built-in technology should still place a service request with
CETS. Regularly scheduled classes and student groups may use the
CETS online request form to schedule service,
or may call CETS at (202) 687-7491. Workshops,
Institutes and Conferences should contact John Steitz at (202) 687-2509 for more information
about
using built-in
rooms.
The Technology Available in each room is abbreviated
as follows:
- Amp - voice amplification through wired or
wireless, hand-held or lavallier, microphones
- Aux. Vid. - RCA video and stereo audio ports
to connect camcorders and personal video devices to video display
and
audio systems.
- CD - audio Compact Disc player. [All PCs also
play audio compact discs.]
- CTR - plays audio cassettes
- Doc Cam - document camera which dispays opaque
papers, books and magazines through video/computer projector
- DVD - plays DVDs through consumer-model DVD
player. [Many PCs in classrooms also play DVDs, with less precise
control.]
- LD - Laser Disc player
- LTP - VGA port to connect PC or MAC notebook
computers to video display system. [Most, but not all, LTP assemblies
also contain a
1/8" audio port for notebook computer audio.]
- MAC - Apple Macintosh desktop computer with
floppy and CD-ROM drives
- MP - 16mm motion picture projector
- MR - video monitor for VHS or DVD playback
- OH - transparency projector. [A stand-alone
transparency projector is located in all Main Campus classrooms.]
- PC - networked desktop PC with 3.5" floppy,
CD-ROM and Zip-100 Drives. [All PCs play audio CDs.]
- RCT - remote control of all technology with
one control-system touchpad
- SL - 35mm Carousel Slide Projector
- TT - 33&1/3 RPM turntable and pre-amp connected
to audio system
- Tuner - radio receiver for AM/FM
- UMATIC - 3/4" videocassette player
- VC - video camera for VHS videorecording
- VHS - NTSC (North American Standard) VHS videocassette
player
- VHSms - multi-standard VHS videocassette player
[plays international VHS videocassettes]
- VP - ceiling-mounted video/computer projector.
[All rooms with video/computer projectors also contain sound
systems for program audio, and electric screens.]
Reserve Room With... lists the entity responsbile
for scheduling use of the room in question. In most cases, this is
the Office
of the University Registrar. Patrons wishing to use classroom
technology must reserve use of the venue
with the appropriate authority before access to technology will
be provided.
CETS Technology Zone Manager (TZM) is
the CETS staff member responsible for upkeep and smooth operation
of the classroom
technology
in question.
Scheduling
access to technology is still a central office function, but all
other matters (training, set-up, troubleshooting, maintenance, etc.)
should be directed to the TZM listed.
