Workshops are open to faculty, students, and staff of Georgetown University. All classes are taught in the Picchi Multimedia Training Classroom located in the Gelardin New Media Center, unless otherwise noted. Classes are taught by the staff of the Gelardin Center. Thousands of online tutorials for programs like Photoshop, Final Cut, Dreamweaver and more are available at Atomic Learning. Free access is available in Lauinger, Blommer and Dahlgren libraries.

This workshop is for people who are decidedly interested in moving beyond basic video DVD-burning software like iDVD to a program that allows for limitless design and at a higher, professional standard. The workshop will touch on encoding -- what it means and what you need to know -- as well as how to create a basic, functional menu for a movie project. This workshop will teach a foundation in using the program that will prepare you for further exploration and experimentation with the program. Having a working knowledge of Adobe Photoshop is helpful but not essential. |

Participants learn how to use Final Cut Pro on Macintosh to create a movie from previously recorded material. Final Cut Pro is widely used for creating video material for the broadcast and motion-picture industries. Participants will learn how to edit video, add effects, titles, credits, and burn their project to DVD. No prior experience with digital video is necessary. |

Students will be introduced online photograph sharing and management applications, and will learn about online options for sharing, managing, editing, and integrating with various social networking sites. Having completed the course, students will also have gained a basic understanding of issues regarding privacy and digital rights. | Photoshop - Basics for Web & Online Publication | ||
Are you interested in discovering how to work with images on the web -- be it for a website, or just something simple like a blog or facebook? This workshop will teach you the fundamentals, including; what is image resolution, tools for retouching and re-sizing, understanding image transparency on the web, and how and when to save in different image formats. This workshop will touch on print briefly, and many aspects of the course are relevant to using Adobe Photoshop for print, but the focus will be on creating or modifying images for publication on the web. Participants in this workshop will manipulate scanned images in Adobe Photoshop using the Photoshop tool palette. Basic Photoshop concepts including layers, text, collage and sampling will be covered. Options for saving images in file formats compatible with web and graphics use will be discussed. Image resolution, working with JPEG and GIF formats, and image size will be covered. Participants are expected to have prior knowledge of scanning. |

Students will learn to combine several layers from different Photoshop document files into one Photoshop Document. The students will learn how to work with individual layers in a single project. Students will be taught how to manipulate and change layers using advanced tools such as resizing, cropping, filters, and different effects tools such as rubber stamp and the healing brush. The final product from this workshop will be a promotional montage. |
