GIS Tutorials
The tutorials below were created in house for new users of the ArcGIS and/or GeoLytics software.

District of Columbia

Mapping and Geocoding D.C. Data - This tutorial features step by step instructions for creating a map of D.C. of 2000 census tract level data using the GeoLytics software. Geocoding or address matching functions are used to apply specific points to the map.

Mapping D.C. Tract Level Population Data - Create a map of the District of Columbia at the 2000 census tract level illustrating particular population variables.  This will be accomplished using GeoLytics, a census data and map layer product, and ArcGIS 8.3, a GIS (Geographic Information System) mapping software package.

Creating a District of Columbia Wards Map - This demonstration illustrates how to download a D.C. map of wards and how to add a new field to the table so that new data may be displayed.

Mapping D.C. Zip Code Level Population Data - Exercise: Create a map of the District of Columbia at the 2000 census zip code level, illustrating particular population variables.  This will be accomplished using GeoLytics, a census data and map layer product, and ArcGIS 8.3, a GIS (Geographic Information System) mapping software package.

United States

Mapping Selected U.S. Cities - This tutorial involves using two selection functions, by distance and elevation, within the ArcGIS 8.3 software. The exercise illustrates creating new layers, selecting features, and labelling.

World

Middle East Exercise - The exercise will use the ArcGIS 9 sofware to create a map of the middle east with different variables displayed.  The exercise demonstrates how to: open a new project, add layers, add new data, join tables, create new layers, and symbolize data.
