FRANK DAHLHAUS COLLECTION

INTRODUCTION

The Frank J. Dahlhaus collection consists of 35 mounted items - 33 Time magazine covers, all but one autographed; 1 introductory statement and 1 closing statement, also mounted. This unique collection was organized by Mr. Dahlhaus to document the effects of technological changes in society as reflected in the periodical press.

The collection includes 33 folders of printed background information for each of the magazine covers, as well as a clipping of the corresponding feature article. Also included are copies of Mr. Dahlhaus' letters to the subjects (or their agents) of the articles requesting the honor of their autographs on the magazine covers.

The last 2 folders of Box 2 contain some caption cards that accompanied the exhibition, and color slides of each of the mounted exhibit items.

SERIES: 1. "Time" Magazine Covers (Exhibit Items)


SERIES DESCRIPTION: (Box 1, Folders 1-33) This is a series of "Time" magazine covers collected by Mr. Dahlhaus and specially mounted for exhibition. Most are signed by the subjects. All include captions by Mr. Dahlhaus, on the back of the matting. The captions were also typed onto index cards (see Box 2, Folder 34).

SERIES: 2. Background Material


SERIES DESCRIPTION: (Box 2, Folders 1 -29; Box 3, Folders 1-6) This series consists of correspondence and information collected by FJD on each of the Time magazine covers and their autographers in Series 1. Information is primarily in the form of newsclippings about the individuals and their fields. Correspondence is in the form of xerox copies of ALS or TLS from FJD to the prospective autographer or agent.
