George Fenwick, SJ was born in Georgetown in 1801. He received his education at Georgetown College, and subsequently joined the Society of Jesus. Fr. Fenwick was one of the young American Jesuits selected to go to Rome in 1820; he spent much of that decade in Europe. Following his return to the United States, Fr. Fenwick took a position at Georgetown College,where he was to pass most of his career. Fr. Fenwick died at Georgetown in1857.
