This sounds odd as nuns don't marry, but widows are allowed to become nuns and this had happened with Rene's mother. One fine day she became ill and her convent sent her for a spell to Pigotts to be cared for by her son and daughter-in-law. So there she was in bed upstairs in the big house being waited on by Joan. Not only that, but she insisted on wearing her nun's white coif which Joan ironed and starched every morning..."

DESCRIPTION: Contains xerox copy of the TMs of the book by William Blissett on David Jones, eventually published under the title, "The Long Conversation: A Memoir of David Jones" (Oxford University Press, 1981). The TMs here is entitled, "Coming to Know David Jones." It is accompanied by 11 typed pages (carbon copy) of commentary by RH and a carbon of a TL (2pp.) from RH to Catherine Carver dated 7/3/80. On the envelope in which the typescript had been packaged and sent by Blissett to RH for review, HG noted in February 1985: "Bill Blissett sent the typescript of his book about David Jones to Rene Hague for comments. This package contains the typescript & - more valuable - Rene's comment which he sent to Blissett. The comments are of value to anyone interested in Rene and David."
