@1. TLS from the Navy Department Bureau of Aeronautics to FG, with reference to the proposed flight over the North Pole by Richard E. Byrd, made in 1926: "My dear Green: You should do all the missionary work you possibly can in backing the Polar flight. The Teapot Dome matter may seriously interfere with it. We have been doing all we can to prevent interference, and hope to know finally within the next day or two whether Congress will attempt any adverse action. Meanwhile we are going ahead with the plans. Every Congressman you can reach personally will be of help. We are trying to let Congress see the public's approval of the expedition as much as we can, but the small minority might interfere with it unless its backers come to the front."

@2. 2 TLS to FG from Halsey Powell, commander of the U.S. Navy, dating 5/13/1924, 6/9/1924, 12/10/1924 re FG's book proposal for a history of the American Navy; the first published in 1925 entitled, "Our Naval Heritage," and the second published in 1926, entitled, "History of the American Navy."
