In letter dated 4/2/1871, Ad writes, "First of all, I have written home just how we stand - what Mrs. Barton has done, saying I would see you on my return - that means dear Madge, asking you formally to be Mrs. A. Adgate Duer." Reference to Mr. Geo. Gould of Ft. Wayne, Indiana.

The letters are written from Cinncinati, Logans Port, Memphis, New Orleans, and Baltimore. Reference to the Tilghman's in the letter of 11/17/1871.
