There are several ways that you can support the Georgetown University Art Collection: Gifts to the Collection; Membership in the Library Associates; Volunteering; Purchasing the Bicentennial Suite of Prints; and Visiting the Collection

Gifts to the Collection
Financial support, works of art, and archival materials are among the contributions that can make an important difference to this significant historical and cultural resource. Commemorative opportunities are available under many financial gift circumstances, as are tax deductions.

Your contribution can help improve the collection's storage facilities, expand the exhibit space, conserve works of art, undertake research projects, and add to the professional staff.

The collection is actively seeking Grade A work in the following art historical areas:

  • United States and Canada: paintings, prints, and drawings, from the late eighteenth through the early twentieth centuries
  • Spanish Colonial: paintings, prints, and drawings
  • European, from Late Mediaevel/Early Renaissance through late nineteenth century: paintings, prints, and drawings
  • East Asian ceramics
  • Important papers and manuscripts in the histoy of art will be seriously evaluated.

Membership in the Library Associates

Now celebrating its twenty-fifth anniversary, the Georgetown University Library Associates boasts an enthusiastic, ever-increasing membership of 1,500 people who enjoy its rich calendar of lectures, exhibit openings, receptions, special events, and the always-popular Holiday Party, as well as library borrowing privileges. Volunteering

Your volunteer time can help tremendously with the Georgetown University Art Collection. Among the help needed immediately are staff for the Carroll Parlor, so that renowned pieces from the collection can be on free public view more than the current limited hours. Georgetown Bicentennial Suite of Prints

You can own a set of four fine full-color reproductions of work significant to the history of Georgetown University when you purchase the Georgetown Bicentennial Suite of Prints - and proceeds from your purchase will support the Art Collection's general operating funds. Included in this set are: Archibishop John Carroll, by Gilbert Stuart, ca. 1805; Sculling on the Potomac, by J. Love, 1888; Southeast End View of the G.T. College, by James A. Simpson, 1831; and Georgetown College, by James A. Simpson, ca. 1833. Click here for ordering information.

Visiting the Collection

Every time you see works from the Georgetown University Art Collection - on permanent or temporary exhibit - you help us fulfill our mission of bringing these treasures, gems, and curiosities to a wide audience for appreciation, understanding, and inspiration. Carroll Parlor will be open five days a week during the spring 2003 semester; admission is free. Access times vary for academic buildings vary. Works in Lauinger Library's Fairchild Gallery are on view 8:00 a.m. to midnight seven days a week. Visitors to Lauinger Library must present photo identification for admittance.
