Susan Lowndes Marques was born in London and educated at St. Mary's Convent, South Ascot. In 1938, she married Luiz Marques, noted Portuguese writer and foreign correspondent. A writer in her own right, Susan Lowndes' works include: The Selective Traveller in Portugal (with Ann Bridge), 1949; Good Food from Spain and Portugal, 1956; and as editor, Diaries and Letters of Marie Belloc Lowndes 1911 - 1947, 1971. She is a member of the Lisbon Ladies Club, and the Society of Authors. She resides with her family in Portugal.

The Iddesleigh and Marques Papers comprise two (2) Boxes
containing letters from various notable Catholic clergy and
laymen: the Rev. Cyril C. Martindale, S.J.; the Rev. Martin
D'Arcy, S.J.; Sir Arnold Lunn; Isabel Clarke; Monica Baldwin;
David Archbishop Mathew; Francis and Maisie Sheed; the Rev.
Herbert Thurston, S.J.; Arthur Cardinal Hinsley; Christopher
Hollis; and Douglas Woodruff to name a few.
The major portion of the correspondence deals with Church- related issues: i.e., the New Liturgy; the catechism movement; and various published religious works by the correspondents. The Papers also contain a complete run of the Catholic journal, Order, as well as pamphlets and Mass cards.
