Keyword searching is a good way to search for new terms or to combine concepts: islamification Use Subject Headings to focus your search: Iraq Foreign
relations NOTE: These
English-language subject headings are assigned to books in all
languages.
1) When
searching Romanized/transliterated Arabic words or names in the
library catalog (GEORGE), do NOT include diacritics (dots/lines
over/under
letters,
apostrophes indicating ayn or hamzah, etc.) 2) If
a name begins with "al-", do not include the "al-" in
your search key.
3) When
searching titles which have "al-" before the FIRST
word of the title, skip the "al-" of the first word
ONLY. Do include "al-" when it is attached to subsequent
words 6) Searching
GEORGE for authors or titles in
Arabic script is now
possible. Not all records have information in both Romanization
and Arabic script, but
newer ones do. If you are using an Arabic-enabled computer,
switch to "Arabic language" (any country) and type
in the information. If the computer you are using is not Arabic-enabled,
you can
search in Romanization and copy/paste the information from
one record to find others. 7) Consult the Library
of Congress Arabic
Romanization Table <http://www.loc.gov/catdir/cpso/romanization/arabic.pdf>
Research Advisor <http://www.library.georgetown.edu/advisor/> lists library databases and periodical indexes in many subjects. The Middle Eastern Area Studies <http://www.library.georgetown.edu/guides/mideaststudies/> guide lists major resources for research and study.
Books in Arabic in all subjects are shelved on the Lower Level of Lauinger Library and have call numbers beginning with PJ. For example, books in Arabic on Saudi Arabia History will have a call number beginning with PJ DS. Books in other languages are shelved on other floors of the library;e.g., an English-language book on the history of Saudi Arabia would be shelved in DS on the fourth floor. Films and music are shelved in the Gelardin New Media Center on the first floor of Lauinger. Many films and music recordings are listed in GEORGE, but the following lists are currently more complete: Documentary Films <http://www.library.georgetown.edu/dept/collect/lists/documentary_middle_east.htm>, Feature Films <http://www.library.georgetown.edu/dept/collect/lists/feature_films_middle_east.htm>.
