Guide to Research: Book Reviews

This is a guide to some of the standard resources used for locating reviews of contemporary books.  It is not intended to be a comprehensive list of sources but rather to give you a place to begin.  If you need specialized reviewing sources or reviews of eighteenth- and nineteenth-century books, please consult a Reference Librarian and/or do a subject search in GEORGE using Library of Congress subject headings such as Books--Reviews--Indexes or Humanities--Book Reviews--Indexes.

To locate reviews, you'll need to know the book's title, author, and publication year.  If you're unsure about the date, a Reference Librarian can help you identify it.  Keep in mind that reviews often appear one to three years after the book's publication date.

Book reviews are published in both popular periodicals (e.g., general-interest magazines and newspapers) and scholarly ones (e.g., academic journals).   For further information, ask a Reference Librarian. This guide can be found online at http://www.library.georgetown.edu/guides/bookreviews/
