Laptop Wireless Printing in the Library

General information

Wireless printing is now available from Windows and Mac laptops to public printers on the 2nd floor of Lauinger Library and in the Blommer Science Library. The service requires downloading and installing free printing software that will install printers for each library printer location (Lauinger and Blommer). Due to the wide variety of settings and configurations on personal laptops, the Library cannot guarantee that wireless printing will work on all system configurations.

Library staff reserve the right to cancel problematic print jobs.

How to use this service:

Step 1: Connect to either the SaxaNet or HOYAS wireless network; laptop printing is not available through the GuestNet network

Step 2: Install the Print Software

Step 2: Send your print job to the print queue

Step 3: Release your print job

Printing cost

$.10 per page. A GOCard with sufficient funds is required for printing.

Requirements

A University Net ID is required. At this time, the software needed for wireless printing is available only to current Georgetown University students, faculty and staff.

System Requirements:

  • Windows 7, Vista, or XP
Mac OS X 10.6, 10.5.2 or later, or 10.4.3 or later
  • A network connection to the campus network
  • Rights on your computer to install software (administrative rights)
  1. I followed your installation instructions and tried everything in your FAQs and I still can't get things to work. What should I do?
First, you can try to remove the print software and then reinstall.

If you continue to experience problems, fill out the Laptop Printing Problem Form and a library staff person will contact you within one to two days, Monday - Friday. If copies are needed immediately, you will need to print from a computer in the Gelardin New Media Center, in the Lauinger Reference area on the 3rd floor, or a Blommer Science Library computer.

  2. When I send a print job from my laptop, how do I know which print station it goes to?
The print software will install two printers on your computer, allowing you to send print jobs to either the 2nd floor print station in Lauinger or to the Blommer Science Library printer (3rd floor, Reiss Science Building). When you send your print job, simply choose which printer you would like to use.

  3. Must I be in the Library to use this service?
No, you do not need to be in the Library to send print jobs to the Lauinger 2nd floor printers or to the Blommer Science Library printer.  You do need to be connected to either the Georgetown University SaxaNet or HOYAS networks; laptop printing will not work if you are connected to GuestNet.

  4. How long will my print job remain in the queue before being purged?
As soon as a job is printed, it is removed from the print queue. Jobs not printed immediately will remain in the queue for two hours.

  5. Is color printing available?
Color printing is not available via wireless printing. For color printing, use one of the computers in the Gelardin New Media Center, Lauinger Library, 1st floor. Color prints are $.65 per page.

  6. Which paper sizes are available for printing?
8 ½ by 11 inches is the only paper size available.

  7. Can printing be done with cash?
The print stations do not accept cash. All Lauinger and Blommer print stations use the University GOCard for printing.

  8. How do I add money to my GOCard?

If you experience problems with the Deposit Stations, please contact the GOCard office at (202) 687-2700 or visit the GOCard office in Darnall Hall.

  9.

  10. Whom do I contact if my print job didn’t go through; the printer is jammed; or I received poor, illegible copies?
    • Go to the Circulation Desk at Lauinger or Blommer Libraries
    • Call Lauinger Circulation (202-687-7607)
    • Send an email to accessservices@georgetown.edu
    • Use the Library’s Ask Us service to IM your problem.

  11. How do I remove the Printing Software?
Follow the instructions for uninstalling based on your computer's operating system.

  • If you are printing a PDF from within a web browser, use the print function in Adobe Reader, not the browser’s print function.
  • Always use the “Print Preview” feature to determine the exact pages you want to print to avoid paying for extra pages.
  • PDF and PowerPoint files may take a long time to print depending on file size, fonts, images/graphics included, and number of pages. In consideration of others who are printing, please break down print jobs into:
    • No more than 20 pages for PDF files, and
    • No more than 5 pages for PowerPoint files.
  • All print jobs that you have not yet printed will remain in the print queue for two hours. After two hours, print jobs expire and are deleted from the queue.
  • If a print job jams, contact the Circulation Desk.
  • For higher quality reproduction of graphics and images in pdf files, use the Adobe option “Print as image.”  (See Adobe printing tips for directions.)
