NewJour is celebrating 20 years of providing information about online journals, magazines, and newsletters to researchers, publishers, and librarians. NewJour provides timely information about and access to online journals and newsletters from around the world through its subscription service. 

The NewJour archive is a searchable database with the original NewJour announcements as its foundation. As a result of migrating NewJour to a new technology, we are able to add new publications more quickly and subscribers can limit their selections by subject. The NewJour database has:

  • Over 31,000 titles
  • Publications in 25 languages
  • Publications from 140 countries
  • Subjects ranging from Accounting to Zoology

NewJour is a reliable source for information about new online publications:

  • New titles are added to the NewJour database several times each week
  • Approximately 2,000 new titles are added each year
  • Over 60% of recent additions are open access
  • Notifications of new journals in are sent out to subscribers according to their subject preferences
Milestones:

August 1993: NewJour-l is established as an e-mail announcement list for new online journals, magazines reporting an average of 2 new publications each week

March 1995: The first NewJour archive with over 200 publications is available by gopher

October 1995: NewJour becomes a collaboration among ARL, Yale University Libraries, the Center for Computer Analysis of Texts (CCAT) at the University of Pennsylvania, and the University of California at San Diego Library

October 1995: An improved NewJour archive with 975 titles is available with clickable links, and searching and browsing features

October 1995: The NewJour listserv has 2,200 subscribers on all seven continents

March 2001: The 10,000th title is added to NewJour

August 2007: The 20,000th title is added to NewJour

June 2012: The 30,000th title is added to NewJour

December 2013: A new NewJour site is launched with a new look and enhanced search features

December 2013: The NewJour listserv is replaced with a new subscription service
