49th Parallel: an Interdisciplinary Journal of North American Studies

(Link inactive 31 August 2004)

(Link active 31 August 2004)

49th Parallel is a new quarterly electronic journal which aims to promote
interdisciplinary study of the North American continent in the nineteenth
and twentieth centuries. The editors seek contributions from disciplines
including history, politics, international relations, cultural studies,
literature, cultural geography, media studies and sociology. The journal
is run by postgraduate students, and aims to promote the work of
postgraduates alongside that of more established scholars.

The journal is organised into three main sections:

1) full length articles which engage with, though not always exclusively,
some aspect of the United States and/or Canada, and which add to and/or
challenge existing scholarship.

2) evaluation of past and current scholarship through book, film, TV and
internet reviews and review essays.

3) comments and discussion will be encouraged in the third section -
Communications - which will also contain Calls for Papers, notices of
conferences, links and subject discussion groups.

49th Parallel is a free Open Access journal on the Internet.
