The aim of Ethnological Centre is to establish the institutional background
to the ethnological research focusing on Slovakia's ethnic Hungarians. It
conducts scientific research in the popular culture of Slovakia's Hungarian
minority; also deals with the documentation and publishing the results of
the research.

Besides the classical research areas of ethnology, the centre places
particular emphasis on interethnic research and analysis of transformations,
while taking historical (especially history of settlements) aspects into
consideration. By means of applying the most recent
theoretical-methodological results of ethnology, the Ethnological Centre
would like to become a modern ethnic Hungarian workshop of European

To achieve its targets, the centre designs and conducts various (even
international) research programs, and joins programs of other organisations.
These programs are as follows:

* Research in interethnic relations
* Ethnological research in sacral matters
* Changes in the popular culture of Slovakia's ethnic Hungarians

Acta Ethnologica Danubiana is the annual yearbook of the Centre and presents
articles and conference papers resulting from the Centre's activities.
