Acta Ethologica publishes empirical and theoretical research papers, short
communications, commentaries, reviews and book reviews in the field of
ethology and related disciplines, with a strong bearing on the behaviour
biology of humans and other animals.

The journal places special emphasis on studies integrating proximate (i.e.
mechanisms, development) and ultimate (i.e. function, evolution) levels in
the analysis of behaviour. Although descriptive ethological studies are also
published, the journal is particularly interested in experimental and field

Aspects of particular interest include: adaptive plasticity of behaviour,
inter-individual and geographic variations in behaviour, mechanisms
underlying behaviour, evolutionary processes and functions of behaviour, and
many other topics.

Acta Ethologica is a journal of the Instituto Superior de Psicologia
Aplicada (ISPA), with the co-operation of Portuguese Society of Ethology.
