The well known ChemWeb site (free after required registration) has
launched their new webzine, the Alchemist. The Alchemist is a round up of
current news stories with links to articles about each story. Users can
also access research news, links to selected web sites, current topics
being discussed on chemistry lists and newsgroups, and a conference diary.
ChemWeb is maintained by two groups: Current Science Group and MDL
Information Systems, Inc. A conference diary recently been added to its
array of services.

Lawyers may be forced out of cancer case
A firm of UK lawyers which has agreed to represent a group of people
with lung cancer in their court case against Imperial Tobacco and
Gallaher, on a 'no win, no fee' basis, could be forced out of the
case through procedural wranglings.

Yugoslav returnee has big plans
Milan Panic left Yugoslavia in the 1950s a penniless national cycling
champion with an eye on the main chance. From a garage in California,
he built up an international pharmaceutical group which now has
annual sales of around $750 million, including the largest production
capacity in Russia.

Eco tax given encouragement
UK policy groups and environmentalists have united to persuade
business leaders to back a new 'green' tax which would shift the
government's emphasis in tax-raising from labour to pollution and
environmental degradation.
