Alsirat intends to be a literary magazine which includes in its purview
written horror. We seek to entertain and enlighten with short stories,
interactive adventures, and articles. We include horror roleplaying
games because so many of the authors and players of these games also
share an interest in literature. Roleplaying games such as Vampire,
Call of Cthulhu, Chill, and Kult owe much to the literary tradition of
horror. No consideration of horror literature in our time would be
complete without investigations into this important new genre.

We do not forget the great traditions of short story, poetry, and drama
which predated roleplaying games. We recall to mind an image of
bards sitting next to a fire, weaving epics in response to the questions
and comments of their audience. We also recollect the contest which
led to the writing of Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley's Frankenstein.
Roleplaying represent a late twentieth century bid to regain the right to
take part in the telling of stories, which was lost when the price of access
to publishing became too high. Alsirat invites you to join in reviving
popular participation literary tradition of horror as a reader and as a
writer. (See our Guidelines for Contributors.)
