This journal is designed to meet the growing demand for theological
resources in the area of ecclesiology, the scholarly study of the
nature and purpose of the Christian Church. Ecclesiology's main areas of
focus will be:

* the broad mission of the global Church, including its evangelistic
task; its interaction with increasingly secular cultures and pluralist
societies and with other faiths;

* ordained and lay ministries of word, sacrament and pastoral
responsibility in the Church; their authority, message, ordering and
required skills;

* the visible unity of the Church, expressed in a common faith, an
interchangeable ministry, a common sacramental life in Christian
initiation and the Eucharist, and in connected structures of leadership,
oversight and decision-making.

Reflecting the rich diversity of the Christian Church, the journal
welcomes articles from diverse perspectives:

* international: with contributions from around the world on themes of
interest to a global Church;

* ecumenical: with articles from across the denominations, commissioned
by a specially selected editorial team;

* interdisciplinary: taking a broad approach to ecclesiological issues,
encompassing in biblical studies, church history, historical and
contemporary theology, applied theology and social ethics;

* practical: combining scholarly depth and rigour with clear relevance
to current issues, in a way that appeals to involved in the day -to -day
life as well as to teachers of theology and other scholars.

Committed to reviewing major new publications, the journal will takes
imaginative approach to book reviews, with adequate space allocated for
review articles of related titles, in depth evaluation of significant
theological publications, and an occasional dialogue between author and
