DUBLIN, Ohio, Sept. 23, 1994--Six Current Opinion journals in the
biological sciences and 24 Current Opinion journals in clinical medicine
will be available electronically through the OCLC Electronic Journals
Online service.

The Current Opinion journals, from Current Science Ltd., will be
grouped in two "clusters" for electronic delivery. Current Opinion in
Biology and Current Opinion in Medicine will be available in early 1995.

The Current Opinion journals were developed out of the recognition
that it is increasingly difficult for specialists and researchers to
keep up to date with the expanding volume of information published in
their respective subject areas. Current Opinion in Biology and Current
Opinion in Medicine will keep subscribers current by providing: the
views of experts on current advances in a clear and readable form;
selections, annotated by experts, of the most interesting papers from
the great wealth of original publications, and; comprehensive
bibliographic listings from several hundred journals.

With the OCLC Electronic Journals Online service, the journals will
be available to readers just 48 hours after acceptance. With a single
subscription, subscribers can browse the contents of journals, or search
the entire collection by a variety of indexes, Boolean operators,
wildcard and proximity indicators

Subscribers to the electronic journal clusters access the journals
with Guidon, Windows-based software developed by OCLC that combines
intuitive, full-text browsing or searching with sophisticated color and
halftone graphical images and equations, in the same typeset quality
presentation that one would expect to have in scholarly print

--- Quote from Current Science---

"The creation of the Current Science clusters shows the true power
of electronic publications," said Andrea Keyhani, manager of Electronic
Publishing, OCLC. "The new Current Opinion cluster journals enable the
subscriber to, in a single search, cover the entire field of medicine
and biology, something that would be time-consuming at best if searching
through paper journals. The user has a single source for comprehensive,
up-to-date medical and biological information, bibliographic information
with abstracts, and instant document delivery."

The Current Opinion journals also offer unlimited SDIs (Selective
Dissemination of Information), and links to the MEDLINE database from
the FirstSearch service, OCLC's online reference service for library

Institutions can subscribe to either journal directly from OCLC, or
through OCLC's regional networks. Subscribers will be charged $4,500
for Current Opinion in Medicine, a savings of over $1,000 off the cover
price for the print version. A subscription for Current Opinion in
Biology is priced at $1,500, a savings of over $1,100 off the cover
price for the print version. Cost for each additional simultaneous
logon is $200.
