Copyright: Your Rights and Responsibilities as an Author and Educator

August is the time of year when faculty are finishing up writing projects and preparing for fall semester classes, both of which involve the use and creation of copyrighted materials. Copyright law is complex, and determining what is or is not permissible can be complicated. If you have questions about your rights and responsibilities as a creator or user of copyrighted materials, the Library has resources available to assist you as you navigate through questions of fair use, permissions, retaining rights to your work, and many other aspects of copyright law.

Below are links to our most popular web pages, which are designed to help you make informed decisions as you create and use copyrighted materials.

Many copyright questions are fact-specific and may not be answered by these pages. If you have a question, please contact librarycopyright@georgetown.edu.
