Fall Scholarly Communication Symposium Explores Online Piracy

On October 26, the Georgetown University Scholarly Communication Committee will host the fall Scholarly Communications Symposium. This year’s symposium, Online Piracy: Why Sci-Hub is Disrupting Scholarly Publishing, will take a deeper look at Sci-Hub, a site that uploads and makes available pirated scholarly content. The panel will explore the legal and moral issues raised by Sci-Hub as well as analyze what the unprecedented growth of this site means for the scholarly community and the future of scholarly publishing.

This year’s panelists are:

  • Lui Simpson, Executive Director, International Copyright Enforcement and Trade Policy, Association of American Publishers
  • Heather Joseph, Executive Director, SPARC

The panel will be moderated by Richard Brown, Director, Georgetown University Press.
