The Library is pleased to announce that Jade Madrid, Latin American Studies and Iberian Languages Liaison & Reference Librarian, is the recipient of this year’s project funds from the Library’s Gladys Brooks Emerging Disciplines Fund. The Gladys Brooks Emerging Disciplines Fund is one of two awards the Library received in 2013 from the Gladys Brooks Foundation to support collections related to emerging disciplines as well as the preservation and conservation of Library Materials.
Jade will use these funds to do collecting in the areas of Afro-Latin American Studies and Afro-Latino Studies. These areas are essential to Lauinger Library collections, especially in light of the Slavery, Memory, and Reconciliation work happening on campus. Additionally, the scholarly work around Afro-Latin America has expanded in the last two decades, and this grant is an opportunity to stay abreast of the recent surge. Bolstering these collections will benefit the Latin American and African American Studies communities on campus and within the WRLC consortium.
