Importance of Libraries in the Digital Age with Dr. Carla Hayden

The Library is delighted to announce that Dr. Carla Hayden, 14th Librarian of Congress will be making a special visit to campus on Friday, September 29. The Office of the President and the Library will be hosting a special lecture featuring Dr. Hayden in Copley Formal Lounge at 11:00am. Dr. Hayden will be sharing her thoughts on the importance of libraries in the digital age.

Dr. Hayden is the first woman and the first African American to lead the Library of Congress and was nominated by President Barack Obama in 2016. A self-professed “accidental librarian”, Dr. Hayden has had an inspiring career in libraries, academics, and museums. Before being sworn in as the 14th Librarian of Congress in 2016, Dr. Hayden served for many years as the CEO of the Enoch Pratt Free Library in Baltimore, MD. Prior to that she was the Deputy Commissioner and Chief Librarian of the Chicago Public Library. She has also taught as an assistant professor for Library and Information Science at the University of Pittsburgh, and was a library services coordinator for the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago.
