In the early 17th century the British East India Company began trading in south and south-east Asia. The Company eventually grew to dominate trade and serve as the de facto government of the Indian subcontinent, until it was dissolved into the British Raj in the 1870s.
This digitized collection of East India Company records from the British Library spans the Company’s founding in 1600 to Indian independence in 1947, and includes royal charters, meeting notes of the Council of India, reports of expeditions and government memoranda. The East India Company collection was generously purchased by the Georgetown University School of Foreign Service Library in Doha, Qatar.
