New Laser Cutter at Lau

Students using the Laser Cutter

The Maker Hub is proud to announce the installation of its latest piece of maker equipment: the Universal Lasers VLS4.60 Laser Cutter.

A laser cutter, as its name implies, is a tool that uses a laser with precisely controlled movements to cut and etch a range of two-dimensional materials with incredible detail. Our laser cutter has a 40 watt laser (upgradeable to 60) and a 24”x18” cutting area. Designing for the laser cutter can be as simple as using Adobe Illustrator for artistic or promotional projects, or as advanced as using AutoCAD for precise engineering work.

The Maker Hub is offering workshops this semester to teach basic skills, and Maker Hub staff will be on hand during open hours to answer your questions and help you operate the machine.
