We are currently installing new doors in the stairwell in Lauinger Library. During this time, visitors will not be able to use landings that are under construction, either to enter that floor or pass through en route to another. We encourage visitors to use the elevators, although the stairwell may still be used to access floors that are not under construction. Landings under construction should only be used in the case of an emergency.
The 3rd floor reference room in Lauinger is now open all the hours the Lauinger Library building is open! The reference room used to close at midnight on most days but the installation of a security gate behind the Circulation Desk to secure staff areas after hours allows us to offer students 24/7 access to 50 additional computers, three print stations, 120 more seats, the overhead book scanner, the microform reader/printer/scanner in the reference area and the New Book shelf. This is a quiet study area, complementing the silent study area in Pierce Reading Room and the computing cluster in Gelardin New Media Center on the 1st floor. Typical software is available on all the computers in the Reference Room. Reference collections (language dictionaries, key subject encyclopedias, etc.) housed in the Reference Room are also now available 24/7. And while the Circulation Desk is still closed after hours, there is a self-checkout machine located next to the 3rd floor photocopiers. Items can be returned to the outside book return or the Circulation Desk.
