Two New Exhibitions Featuring Composer And Pianist Margaret Bonds

Two exhibitions in the Booth Family Center for Special Collections feature the African-American composer and pianist Margaret Bonds (1913-1972). Margaret Bonds: Composer and Activist in the Leon Robbin Gallery looks at her life in music, and Margaret Bonds and Langston Hughes: A Musical Friendship examines the lifelong collaboration between the composer and the poet. The exhibitions were curated by Anna Celenza, Thomas E. Caesteker Professor of Music, using the recently acquired papers of Margaret Bonds now available to researchers in the Booth Family Center for Special Collections.

You can visit the exhibitions in person on the 5th Floor of Lauinger Library or online through the Library’s website.

The Library and the Georgetown University Music Program’s Friday Music Series will highlight Margaret Bonds compositions in its September 23 program featuring a special panel and luncheon preceding the afternoon concert. Find out more information and RSVP for this program here
