Woodstock Exhibitions Mark Vatican II 50th Anniversary

As we mark the 50th anniversary of the closing of the Second Vatican Council, Georgetown University will host Vatican II - Remembering the Future: Ecumenical, Interfaith and Secular Perspectives on the Council's Impact and Promise, the 9th Ecclesiological Investigations Network International Conference, under the direction of Georgetown theologian Gerard Mannion. The conference will take place May 21 through 24 at Georgetown, the National Cathedral and Marymount University.

The gathering will feature Christians belonging to other churches, figures from other faith traditions and secular thinkers alongside a host of prominent Catholic leaders and scholars, engaging in a conversation exploring the Second Vatican Council’s impact and enduring legacy.

As part of the conference, the Woodstock Theological Library is presenting three exhibitions on Vatican II:

  • The primary documentation generated before and during the Council will be on display in Gaston Hall throughout the conference.
  • The Kerbs Gallery on the third floor of Lauinger Library will feature materials focused on post-conciliar studies by scholars associated with Georgetown and the Woodstock Theological Center.
  • The Woodstock Theological Library on the lower level of Lauinger Library will host a multi-case display of several drafts of documents generated during the council, highlighting shifts in the Catholic Church’s approach to the social “Other.”
