Library Research Instruction Program
The librarians of Lauinger Library and the Blommer Science Library
provide library research instruction designed to introduce students
to strategies for doing library research and to the main campus
libraries' collections, services, and research tools.
- First-year students learn basic research skills and learn
about academic integrity by completing the Joining
the Conversation online tutorial.
- Georgetown University faculty may schedule
in-depth instruction to introduce students to the many specialized
sources and techniques for making research more effective and
efficient.

Research and Academic Integrity
- An onine tutorial required of all first-year and transfer
students who must complete it by October 5, 2007.
- Login to Student
Access+ with your Georgetown University NetID and password
and click on the tutorial. (Faculty may access the tutorial
in Faculty
Access+.
- Covers important research skills
*How to find scholarly books and articles
*When and why to use the Web -- and
the difference between the Web and online library research resources
*Where to go for help
- Discusses the importance of research ethics
* How to keep track of sources
* Why it's important to give credit
to your sources
*How to work in groups and share materials

- The tutorial is a collaborative project of students, faculty,
and staff from Lauinger Library, Georgetown College, the Honor
Council, the Center
for New Designs in Learning and Scholarship (CNDLS), the Registrars
Office, University Information Services, the Writing Center,
the School of Nursing and Health Studies, the Walsh School
of Foreign Service, and the McDonough School of Business.
- Visitors may review the tutorial in Guest
Mode. This mode will not record your results.
First-year and transfer students should not use the guest mode
version.
Course-related Instruction
- Taught by librarians by faculty request.
- Introduces students to relevant research materials for their
course assignment.
- Outlines the research process.
- Students examine and discuss pertinent reference resources.
- Librarians demonstrate GEORGE, periodical indexes, Internet
resources, and students have hands-on practice with these resources
in the Dubin Memorial Classroom (first floor,Lauinger Library).

with the faculty member present.

- Learn to: Login, create
records, direct import, create folders, revise record,
create bibliography from captured records,
use RefGrab-It, capture citations from George,
line cite, and use Write-n-Cite.
- Start
here by creating an account.
- Have
someone come into your class to teach RefWorks.
Graduate Seminars
- Scheduled by graduate departments for the start of the school
year.
- New graduate students learn about library services and key
research tools of their disciplines.

Guides--Where to Start Your Research Project
- Annotated guides to the major
electronic and print resources in 60 topic areas.
Appointments

Consultations
- Students, faculty, or staff may make an appointment to discuss
a research topic, to develop a search strategy, and
to examine relevant resources.
- Librarians offer an overview of and in-depth assistance
with important resources for senior or master's theses, dissertations,
papers, and other types of research projects.
