To Request Books or Journal Articles

1.Before submitting a consortium request, verify in GEORGE that the book or journal
is NOT available in the Georgetown Main Campus libraries (Lauinger or
Blommer). The item must either not be found in GEORGE, or the item status must
be Due, Missing, Missing SENSA, or Searching before initiating a CLS request.

2.Search for the same title in the WRLC catalog.

3.Check the WRLC catalog record to verify the following information before you
submit your request:

  • The book's status in the record of the lending library says Available.

NOTE: Materials located at George Mason University do not have a status
in the WRLC catalog. Click on the title of the item, then the "George Mason
holdings" url listed in the item record. The George Mason catalog will appear
with the item record (status will be "not charged" if it is available). Use the
"Back" button of your web browser to return to the WRLC catalog and
request the material if it is not charged.

The item circulates (this does not apply to journal article requests). The
following items do not circulate:

  • Media Collections: videos, tapes, CDs (see Finding Media for more details)
  • Law Library Collections
  • Special Collections Materials
  • Reserve Materials
  • Articles of 50+ pages
  • Reference Materials
  • Gallaudet University Model School and Leisure Collections

4.Choose the item you wish to request and click on the Request button from the
menu bar at the top of the screen.

5.From the pull down menu, choose Institution ID. Enter your 9 digit University ID
number (begins with an 8), found on the front of your GOCard.

6.Click on OK for Georgetown Consortium Loan Request.

7.You should now see the Consortium Loan Request form on your screen with the
title of the book or journal you're requesting at the top of the form.

8.Complete the following sections of the form:

Finding Media at WRLC Schools

1. If the Georgetown library does not own the media you are looking for, check the WRLC Catalog.

2. If the item is found in the WRLC catalog, you are welcome to listen to or view the material at the WRLC library that owns the media. Please note: media owned by WRLC libraries cannot be checked out.

FACULTY ONLY: Faculty members of Georgetown University may arrange to borrow media owned by WRLC libraries through the WRLC Media Share program. Loans must be arranged at least one week in advance and are only coordinated through the media center representatives of the Gelardin New Media Center (GNMC). Please contact a GNMC supervisor at (202) 687-7410 or gelardin@georgetown.edu, for more details.
