Data Visualization Workshop Series

2:00pm-4:00pm, Thursday, July 19, 2018 to Thursday, July 26, 2018
Murray Room (5th floor of Lauinger library)

Since each workshop is designed to build upon the skills learned earlier, participants are required to attend all three sessions in this workshop series. Due to the popularity of Gelardin’s workshops, please make sure that you are available to commit to all of the dates before signing up.

Participants will also need to bring their own laptops installed with Tableau Desktop to this workshop series. Get Tableau Desktop for free with your georgetown email address.

Session 1: Thursday July 19, 2-4pm

In session one, participants will receive a refresher on descriptive statistics, learn best practices of data visualization, and understand how to prep their data for a project.

Session 2: Tuesday July 24, 2-4pm

In session two, participants will be introduced to the Tableau Desktop workspace and to the basics of creating different chart types.

Session 3: Thursday July 26, 2-4pm

In session three, participants will learn more advanced Tableau functions, such as creating parameters, using calculated field functions, leveraging filters, and polishing their dashboard design skills. Finally, participants will have the opportunity to test the skills they’ve learned on their own final data visualization project.
