The Tigris and Euphrates Rivers

The project is a map of the Tigris and Euphrates rivers at the turn of the eighteenth century based on the textual sources of the period as well as modern hydro-climatological studies. Its aim is to serve as an illustrative figure in my dissertation project about the history of the Tigris and Euphrates rivers during the early modern period (c. 1500-1800). The map displays the entirety of the rivers' courses from their sources in the Anatolian highlands down to their mouth in the Persian Gulf and highlights specific topics discussed in my dissertation, such as major tributaries, settlement centers, and channel shifts.
