Library Partners with Library of Congress CIP Program

The University Library has begun a new partnership with the Library of Congress Cataloging-in-Publication (CIP) program and the Georgetown University Press to expedite the processing of new titles from GU Press and make them available to users as quickly as possible.

The CIP program generates cataloguing data for an item prior to publication. These records are created from the publishing proofs and used for the copyright page in the book, among other uses.

This new partnership will allow the Library to receive CIP data from the Library of Congress for all GU Press titles prior to publication. This means that once the books are published and received at the Library, they can be placed on the shelf and available for check-out almost immediately.
