Staff Spotlight: Meet Ben Cushing

  1. Name, job title, and location: Ben Cushing, Access Services Specialist for Print Collections, Access Services in Lauinger Library.
  2. What do you do—in 10 words or less? Maintain and help facilitate access to print materials.
  3. Where are you from? Cincinnati, Ohio.
  4. Do you have any hobbies? My hobbies primarily include playing video games, watching sports and TV, and reading.
  5. What are you reading/watching/playing/listening to/learning right now? Right now I am reading the Naruto manga series, which has actually turned out to be a bit of an endeavor. It consists of 73 volumes, spanning 700 chapters.
  6. What's your favorite fall activity? My favorite fall activity is probably hiking or apple picking.
  7. If you could have a magic ticket to any event or time period, which would you pick and why? If I could only choose, it one would have to be the Russian October Revolution in 1917. I spent a fair amount of my undergraduate education studying Russian history and that whole event is fascinating!
  8. Is there anything from the past that you wish would come back into fashion? I really like some throwback jerseys from sports teams from the 80s and 90s. The 90s Toronto Raptors jerseys for instance.
  9. What's your superpower or hidden talent? I would say being extremely patient is my superpower.
  10. If you didn’t work in your current field, what would you be doing? If I did not work in libraries, I would probably be a teacher or some other education-related role.
