Touching On

This sculpture serves as a commentary on the shortcomings of a few specific subjects in American public education- Geography & History. The globe's continents were outlined using a laser-cut template designed by the artist in the Maker Hub and painted with the artist's fingertips to reference the all-too-common phrase encountered in American history & geography classrooms everywhere: "We'll only have time to touch on...". In only addressing the outline of a country's history, culture, and geographic significance, all nuance is lost. Created in Fall 2019, this piece is made from laser cut wood & mat board, aluminum, plaster, and styrofoam.
